How Do Security Guys Determine Fake IDs

At the entrance to the nightclub, you are always waiting for a bouncer whose duties include the identification of the guests’ documents. They call themselves the security service, as they check each guest – whether he has reached the age of majority to be able to drink alcohol, according to state law. The bouncer must necessarily check the documents of each new guest. Also, all the security guys have to be able to distinguish between fake and real identity cards.

There are several steps that bouncers must take to determine the fake or real ID of the guests. The following steps include:

  1. Handing your ID

When guests give their ID cards to security staff or a bartender, they can easily distinguish fake cards from real ID cards. Sometimes guests prefer to show ID cards to bouncers for a second and return them to their wallets. However, staff does not like this way of checking identity cards, and they ask to hold the documents in their hands to carefully look at it in many cases.

There is no proper lighting in the nightclubs. It can help you to hide small inaccuracies of your fake IDs from guards’ eyes. However, some bouncers bring a flashlight with them to light up the minute details of IDs. In case you meet such picky bouncers, you can consider yourself unlucky.

Next, you need to get in a position where security guards can’t directly observe your face and compare it to your ID’s picture. The guards usually ask the person to stand in front of them to put the photo next to his face. This is a major part of the identification process. You should at least look like a printed face.

Bouncers and bartenders learn the structure of the customer’s face and train to get the ability to compare it with the photo of the ID. They can quickly examine the eyes, teeth, and chin of your face and compare it with the existing photo in the document.

You must use a fake ID card only with the extended expiration date of your phony driver’s license or any other document. The expiration date has to be the same as the actual (DMV expiration Dates) for the specific identifier.

For instance, some US states require up to five years for expiration time-frames. In case the expiration date exceeds that five years, bouncers and nightclub staff can determine a fake ID.

2. Looking for any damage on ID card

When you are going to obtain some alcohol, don’t forget to check your fake ID on the subject to any harm. If your card is somehow bent, clipped, or blurred, it is not a good idea to use this ID. When any ID has small spots or any damage, it is considered as not valid. Therefore, all the security staff checks identification cards for any damage.

3. Comparing age on ID with appearance.

The age of majority that allows purchasing alcohol and entering nightclubs is 21. Only people who are 21 or over are available to go out and buy alcohol cocktails in the bars. Bouncers and bartenders usually check the age that is written in the identification document. Then they look at cardholder to see if this person seems like his fake age. The security staff is trained for logical thinking. In case your physical appearance says that you are 13 instead of 25 that is written in your ID, it may make bouncers suspect you in fraud.

4. Checking OVD (optically variable devices)

All real IDs have minor details of OVD that is included in the identificators. Every US state has different OBD signs. This technology allows security forces and police to spot fake IDs. However, they need to use special equipment that can properly read OVD details.

5. Checking microprinting quality

This technique allows for protecting IDs from forgery. Micropatterns of the state name (for instance, Florida or New York) are embedded laser-perforated through the identification card. However, reliable and high-quality providers can make fake IDs with microprinting. Bouncers and sellers of alcohol usually inspect IDs for microprinted patterns as fake IDs have just sticker with the state name. It can be quickly identifying with the use of magnifying glass. Zooming up the sticker, security staff can understand the fraud. The legit IDs are made of Teslin or Polycarbonate that allows making microprinting. Fake IDs are made of cheap material and use stickers of printing.

6. Checking the engraved part.

Each state has specific features that distinguish one from others. IDs of some states have particular raised printing parts (or engraved elements). There are the birth date, expiration date, signature, issuing date that is engraved on IDs. When you can feel all these elements with your fingerprints, it means that this ID is real. As bouncers are experienced, they usually know how to take the card and feel the necessary elements with fingerprints. If they don’t find tactile elements, they begin to suspect the cardholder.

7. What is an ID made of?

The material of the identificator has to be Teslin or Polycarbonate. Most states require to produce IDs from Teslin as this substance is more appropriate for identification documents. Fake IDs are manufactured from cheap material that, in many cases, is PVC or plastic. These materials are usually used for school identity badges. Security staff knows how to look like Teslin and PVC, and they can easily distinguish one from another. Be careful with cheap fake IDs. Don’t choose a provider who works with plastic.

The second material for IDs is Polycarbonate that was modified. Now, this substance is much better than Teslin. “Real ID Act ща 2005” was enacted in May of 2005, and now almost each US state uses it. This law establishes requirements for state driver’s licenses and IDs to be adopted by the federal government for only “official purposes.” To avoid changes and falsifications with the guarantees of each state ID, the DMV has implemented some new elements of protection for driver’s licenses. The point is these elements can be put only in Teslin or PVC.

8. Checking encoding elements

Every ID has magnetic stripes and codes. However, it is not easy to make all these features on Polycarbonate or Teslin without professional equipment. Bouncers are aware of the encoding part, so they check it to make sure the ID is real. In case you order a fake ID in a scam or cheap services, you may get a meager encoding or lack thereof.

9. Viewing the digits on IDs

The security staff knows that all the US states’ IDs have different format of numbers. One state has only eight digit-number, another one – ten. And all of them also have a different format of placing numbers in cards.

10. Checking the lamination of the documents

Most fake IDs are laminated incorrectly, so the bouncers can easily distinguish a good lamination from a simple stickers’ layer. Fraudulent ID providers typically only use stickers for the top layer of falsified documents.
